Why does benchmarksutra score keyboards?

Keyboard listings in India mix very different products under one word. A ₹529 wired membrane board, a ₹9,399 office keyboard and a ₹20,999 esports board all appear in the same search. Big MRPs and "up to" claims make them harder to compare.

So we built one fixed method. Every keyboard gets the same seven ratings from official specs and Indian prices. Each buyer type then gets its own weighting. A gamer, a writer and an office worker see different rankings from the same ratings.

What are the seven rows?

Row

What we rate

Main inputs

Typing feel & switches

How it types

Switch type (mechanical linear, tactile or clicky, Hall effect, optical, scissor, membrane), actuation, hot-swap, stabilisers, sound dampening

Gaming performance

Speed and control in games

Polling rate, adjustable actuation and rapid trigger, NKRO or anti-ghosting, wireless latency mode

Build quality

How long it lasts

Case (aluminium or plastic), plate, keycaps (PBT or ABS, double-shot), gasket mount, rated keystrokes

Ergonomics & layout

Comfort and fit

Layout size, split or tenting, low profile, wrist rest, feet, Mac and Windows legends

Connectivity & battery

Wireless freedom

Wired, 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth, multi-device count, official battery life, charging

Software & features

Control

Software or VIA/QMK, macros, onboard profiles, media keys or knob, backlight, OS support

India value

What an Indian buyer pays and gets

Best current price on Amazon.in, Flipkart or the brand store, India warranty, service network

We do not rate latency or sound from our own measurements yet, because we have not tested hardware in-house. Gaming performance is rated from the polling rate and switch features the maker publishes.

How do we rate each row?

Each row is rated out of 10 using fixed rules. Half points are allowed. The main rules:

Row

Rule of thumb

Typing feel & switches

Hot-swap mechanical with gasket or foam 9–10; standard mechanical 7.5–8.5; low-profile mechanical 7.5–8.5; premium scissor 6.5–7.5; membrane 4–5.5

Gaming performance

Hall effect (magnetic) with adjustable actuation and rapid trigger 9.5–10; +0.5 for 8 kHz polling; standard 1 kHz mechanical with NKRO 7.5–8; office keyboards 4–5

Build quality

Aluminium case + PBT keycaps 9+; plastic + PBT 7.5–8.5; plastic + ABS 6–7; budget membrane 5

Ergonomics & layout

Rated for the keyboard's purpose; split or tented 9+; +0.5 for an included wrist rest; −0.5 for 60% boards (no arrows or F-row)

Connectivity & battery

Wired only 4; 2.4 GHz only 7; 2.4 GHz + Bluetooth 8; tri-mode multi-device with long battery 9–10

India value

Price against the other six rows; −1 if the warranty is under one year or there is no India service; +0.5 for a two-year India warranty

Hall effect means magnetic switches: a sensor reads how far the key has moved, so you can set the actuation point and use rapid trigger. Razer's Huntsman V3 Pro uses analog optical switches instead. They give similar adjustable actuation, but they are not Hall effect, and we label them correctly.

When a maker does not publish a figure, we rate on what is published and say so in the post. We never guess silently.

What are the six profile weights?

The same seven ratings are weighted differently for six buyer types. Every column adds up to 100.

How the benchmarksutra Keyboard Score weighs each of the seven rows in each list

Not every keyboard appears in every list. The ergonomic list has only six boards, because the split Logitech ERGO K860 is not officially sold in India, so we left it out rather than score an import.

How is the score calculated?

Score = sum of (rating × weight) ÷ 10, rounded to the nearest whole number. Here is the Keychron K2 HE under the General profile:

Row

In one line: (9×20 + 9.5×10 + 8.5×15 + 7.5×15 + 9×15 + 8.5×10 + 6.5×15) ÷ 10 = 83.25, which rounds to 83/100.

The same ratings give the K2 HE 86 under Gaming, 83 under Wireless and 78 under Budget. The AULA F75 shows the opposite pattern: 82 under General but 84 under Budget, because it costs a quarter as much. That is the point of profiles.

What do the tiers mean?

Tier

Score

What it means

S

90+

Best in class for that profile

A

80–89

Strong pick, few compromises

B

70–79

Good, with clear trade-offs

C

60–69

Acceptable for basic or narrow use

D

Below 60

Avoid unless niche use case

These are the same tiers used on every benchmarksutra score. No keyboard reached S tier in this first round. In our buying guides, if a price band has no keyboard at 70 or above, we say so instead of forcing a pick.

benchmarksutra Keyboard Score: top 20 keyboards overall in India

The top ten sit between 79 and 83, and the order is set by unrounded scores. A ₹5,418 board sits one point behind a ₹21,190 one, which is why India value is its own row.

Where does our data come from?

  • Specs: manufacturer product pages, spec sheets, manuals and warranty pages, India sites first. Where a brand page would not load, we used the maker's spec text as shown on the retailer listing and flagged it.

  • Prices: Amazon.in, Flipkart and brand India stores, checked on 5 November 2026. We name the retailer next to every price.

  • Warranty: the maker's warranty page or the warranty summary on the listing. Where no India term is published, we say so.

  • Never used: other review sites' scores, rankings, wording, tables or charts, and no lab figures.

Where a maker's own pages disagree, for example two battery figures on two AULA sites, we report both or leave the figure out.

What does "Researched, not Tested" mean?

Every keyboard post carries this label. It means the scores come from official specs, Indian prices and our fixed rules. We have not typed on these keyboards for weeks, measured their latency or recorded their sound.

We think this is still useful. Most of a keyboard's value is set by facts you can check: switch type, layout, connections, battery, warranty and price. But it is not a hands-on review, and we will not call it one.

When we test a keyboard hands-on, its label will change to "Tested".

Checklist: how to read a benchmarksutra keyboard score

  • Check which profile the score uses. A Gaming score and an Ergonomic score answer different questions.

  • Look at the row ratings, not only the total. A low row can matter more to you than the total.

  • Check the price date. Our prices were checked on 5 November 2026 and change often.

  • Check the India warranty line for your brand.

  • Remember the label: researched, not hands-on tested.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Mistake 1: Comparing scores across profiles

A Gaming 82 and a Wireless 82 are not the same thing. Compare keyboards within one profile.

Mistake 2: Calling every magnetic-style board Hall effect

Analog optical switches also offer adjustable actuation, but they work differently. Check the switch type the maker names.

Mistake 3: Treating MRP as the price

Indian listings often show inflated MRPs, some above ₹50,000. We score on the selling price we found, and we name the retailer.

FAQs

What is the benchmarksutra Keyboard Score?

It is our own 100-point rating for keyboards sold in India. Seven rows are rated out of 10 and weighted by buyer profile.

Did you test these keyboards hands-on?

No. Scores are researched from official specs, Indian prices and fixed rules, and every post is labelled "Researched, not hands-on tested".

Why does one keyboard have six scores?

Each profile weights the same seven ratings differently. A keyboard can be excellent for office work and average for gaming.

Which keyboard has the highest General score?

The Keychron K2 HE, at 83/100, ₹21,190 on keychron.in.

Is the Razer Huntsman V3 Pro a Hall effect keyboard?

No. It uses Razer analog optical switches, which also allow adjustable actuation and rapid trigger, but they are not magnetic Hall effect switches.

Do you use other review sites' scores?

No. We do not copy or reuse any other site's scores, rankings, wording, tables or charts, and we used no lab figures.

What does a D tier mean?

A score below 60. We suggest avoiding these keyboards unless you have a narrow use for them.
