How we rated these ergonomic keyboards

Each keyboard gets seven row ratings out of 10. The ergonomic profile weights Ergonomics & layout at 35%, then Typing feel and India value at 15% each. Build, Connectivity and Software get 10% each, and Gaming performance 5%. A split or wave layout with a palm rest can score 9 or more on the Ergonomics row; a flat board without a rest cannot.

The ratings match our best keyboard and best wireless keyboard lists; only the weights change.

Best ergonomic keyboard by budget

Under ₹2,000

None of the six boards costs under ₹2,000, so we have no pick here. The best budget keyboard list covers cheap office boards, but none of them has a wave, split or palm-rest design.

₹2,000–5,000

The Logitech Signature K650 (75/100, ₹4,295 on Flipkart) is the pick: full-size, with a built-in palm rest.

₹5,000–10,000

Five of the six boards sit here. The Logitech Wave Keys (81/100, ₹5,495 on Amazon.in) is the best value and the HP 960 (79/100, ₹5,141 on Amazon.in) is the split option. The MX Keys S and MX Mechanical (both 81/100) suit people who want a flat, backlit board.

Above ₹10,000

No ergonomic keyboard we found is officially sold in India above ₹10,000. Logitech's split ERGO K860 would belong here, but it is not in Logitech India's keyboard catalogue or on Flipkart. We saw it only through an import reseller, with no official India warranty, so we did not rate it.

Wave Keys earns a 9.5 on Ergonomics & layout, the joint-highest in this list. Its keys follow a curved wave over a built-in cushioned palm rest. It is not split and does not tent, so the change is small. It costs ₹3,904 less than the MX Keys S, which has the same score.

Who should skip it: Anyone who wants a palm rest in the box, or the most ergonomic shape for the money. The Wave Keys has both for less.

The MX Mechanical has the best typing feel in this list (8.5), from low-profile mechanical switches in Linear, Tactile Quiet or Clicky. Its low height keeps your wrists flatter than a tall gaming board, but there is no palm rest or curve. Its full comparison with the MX Keys S is in Logitech MX Mechanical vs MX Keys S.

Who it is for: People who want mechanical keys at work, with multi-device switching and long battery life.

Who should skip it: Anyone who wants hot-swap switches (it has none) or a shaped, split or wave layout.

Key specs:

  • Full-size with number pad; low-profile mechanical switches (Linear, Tactile Quiet or Clicky)

  • Smart white backlighting

  • Bluetooth Low Energy and Logi Bolt receiver, up to 3 devices

HP calls the 960 a split keyframe with negative tilt. That means the keys are angled apart for each hand, and the board slopes down away from you. It has a high-density foam palm rest and a separate number pad that you can place on either side. It ties the Wave Keys on Ergonomics (9.5) but trails on typing feel and software.

Who it is for: People who want to try a split layout without importing a keyboard.

Who should skip it: Anyone who wants a backlight or a rechargeable battery.

Key specs:

  • Split keyframe with negative tilt; integrated soft-touch foam palm rest; detachable separate number pad

  • Quiet keys with finger-fit keycaps. HP does not name a mechanical switch, so we treat it as membrane

  • Bluetooth (Swift Pair) and HP USB-A 2.4 GHz dongle, up to 3 devices

  • Two AA batteries in the keyboard, up to 24 months; two CR2032 cells in the number pad, up to 6 months

  • HP Accessory Center software with 20 programmable keys

  • 926 g keyboard plus 73 g number pad. India warranty not confirmed on an HP India page

It costs ₹1,200 less than the Wave Keys and scores 6 points lower, mostly because its layout is flat.

Who it is for: Buyers who want a palm rest under ₹5,000.

Who should skip it: Anyone who wants backlit keys or a curved layout.

Key specs:

  • Full-size with number pad; deep-cushioned membrane keys; integrated soft palm rest; spill-resistant

  • Bluetooth LE 5.1 and Logi Bolt receiver

  • Two AA batteries, up to 36 months; no backlight

  • Device count, OS list and India warranty term not confirmed on a Logitech page we read

The TUF K3 is here for its magnetic wrist rest. It is wired only (Connectivity 4/10) and has the lowest India value rating of the six.

Who it is for: Gamers who want a wrist rest in the box.

Who should skip it: Office typists; the Logitech boards above suit them better.

Key specs:

  • Full-size; magnetic wrist rest of 438.7 × 76.95 × 10.75 mm (ASUS)

  • Mechanical red linear switches on the K3/RD model; NKRO and anti-ghosting per the Flipkart listing

  • Wired USB, USB-C to USB-A cable; 1,000 Hz polling

  • Armoury Crate and Aura Sync; 8 macro keys with on-the-fly recording

  • 1-year carry-in warranty per the Flipkart listing. This is the original K3, not the Gen II

How to choose an ergonomic keyboard

Wave, split or flat with a palm rest: what is the difference?

Ergonomic keyboards change how your wrists and forearms sit while you type. There are three main designs in India.

  • Wave: the keys follow a gentle curve and a palm rest is built in. The layout stays in one piece, so it is easy to switch to. Example: Logitech Wave Keys.

  • Split: the keys are divided into a left and a right group, angled apart for each hand. This changes your hand position the most and takes the longest to learn. The HP 960 is the split board we found sold in India; Logitech's ERGO K860 is not sold officially here.

  • Flat with a palm rest or low profile: a normal layout, either with a built-in rest (Signature K650, TUF K3) or with low keys that keep your wrists flatter (MX Keys S, MX Mechanical). Easiest to use, smallest change.

An ergonomic keyboard may reduce strain for some people. It is not a treatment. If you have pain in your hands, wrists or arms that does not go away, see a doctor.

What else should you check?

  • Desk space. Wave and split boards with palm rests are deep. The HP 960 is 233.57 mm front to back and the Wave Keys 218.91 mm, against about 131 mm for the MX Keys S.

  • Backlight. Only the MX Keys S, MX Mechanical and TUF K3 light up. Wave Keys, HP 960 and K650 do not.

  • Battery type. Wave Keys, HP 960 and K650 run on AA or AAA cells for months; the MX boards recharge over USB-C.

Checklist

  • Measured your desk depth against the keyboard and palm rest

  • Decided whether you can spend a few days getting used to a split layout

  • Checked whether you need a backlight

  • Checked the exact model on the listing (TUF K3, not K3 Gen II; the MX Mechanical switch type you want)

  • Checked that the seller is authorised, so the brand's India warranty applies

  • Kept the GST invoice for warranty claims

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Expecting a keyboard to fix pain. An ergonomic keyboard may reduce strain for some people. Persistent pain needs a doctor.

  • Importing a split board without a warranty. The ERGO K860 is sold in India only through import resellers, so there is no official India warranty.

  • Forgetting the palm rest. The MX Keys S and MX Mechanical do not include one.

  • Trusting a big MRP discount blindly. The MX Mechanical sold at about half its listed MRP. Check the seller.
